Individual Counseling

My clients benefit from a compassionate, safe space where they feel free to be their authentic selves. This is a place where you can let go of what no longer serves you, build your capacity to better manage life’s challenges, and create space for enjoyment.

I work with adult individuals on the following issues and more.

  • Mood disorders - Anxiety and depression

  • Phobias and fears

  • PTSD and trauma

  • Burnout

  • Grief and loss

  • Life transitions

  • Low self-worth

EMDR Therapy

EMDR is a powerful form of therapy that helps our brains heal from trauma, adversity, or other distressing events. It is recognized as a best practice for treating PTSD in combat veterans by the Veterans Administration and the Department of Defense. However, you don’t need to experience PTSD to benefit from EMDR. Research has shown that it effectively and efficiently treats a variety of other issues such as anxiety, depression, OCD, and phobias, taking less time to do so than traditional talk therapy.

One of the many benefits of EMDR is that it doesn’t require you to talk in detail about the trauma or distressing event. And, unlike cognitive forms of therapy, there is generally little to no homework.

Beyond the standard EMDR protocol, I have additional training in the treatment of anxiety disorders, phobias, and OCD; group protocols which include the acute stress and stabilization (ASSYST), recent critical incidents and ongoing traumatic stress (EMDR-PRECI); the distancing approach to address OCD; and the integration of IFS with EMDR to practice IFS-informed EMDR.

Introduction to EMDR Therapy

“EMDR therapy targets the unprocessed memories that contain the negative emotions, sensations and beliefs. By activating the brain’s information processing system, the old memories can then be “digested.” Meaning what is useful is learned, what’s useless is discarded, and the memory is now stored in a way that is no longer damaging.”

Dr. Francine Shapiro, Founder of EMDR

Phobias/Emetophobia

Phobias are a category of anxiety disorders that cause intense fear or panic about an object or situation. Because phobias are often rooted in traumatic experiences, I take a trauma-focused approach to treating them.

Emetophobia, or the fear of vomiting, can be debilitating and isolating – just know that you are not alone! I specialize in working with clients who struggle with emetophobia, an often misunderstood, misdiagnosed, and difficult-to-treat phobia. Emetophobia can make your world smaller by avoiding situations that you once enjoyed, isolating yourself from others, and feeling deeply uncomfortable in your own body. I help my clients better manage anxiety, turn down the dial on distress, reduce dependence on safety behaviors, and uncouple feelings of panic from common bodily sensations.

Community and connection are important. Whether you are a clinician seeking consultation or a student/intern in need of guidance or mentoring, I’d love to connect!

As an EMDR Consultant-in-Training (CIT), I can provide consultation to EMDR-trained clinicians who are interested in pursuing EMDR certification or clinicians who would like to grow their skills.
